Wasp Grubs for your flies, for trout fishing fly tying

Wasp Grubs !

You have seen them, but did reailise what they were.

Have you noticed Magpies digging around with their beaks hauling out small white grubs from the grass and soft earth in Trout country, they were eating European Wasp larvae.

Trout with white grubs in their belly or Trout taking something from the surface and then you found white grubs in their belly or white grubs in the wash at the wind driven side of the lake, yep, they were wasp grubs. The babies of the European Wasp, thats always trying to get into your food or drink in Trout country.

Well these grubs drove me crazy, maybe crazier, trying to find out what they were, I ask fly fishers who thought they knew, and then asked someone in Britain, of course its those Europen Wasps !

From there we tracked down a supplier and added them to our stock, why because I want to fish these white grubs as at times on Lake Eucumbene thats all the Trout wanted to eat.

We also were told Glow in the Dark grubs are better for Rainbows, in both the full sun or daylight. These little grubs also float and from testing, we would suggest either a floating line, and drift the grub, or a very slow figure of eight retreive, or a Intermediate line and short leader, and again a very slow figure of eight retreive once the grub has started to sink as it is pulled under the surface by the Intermediate line - These are soft biodegradable grubs. As close as you are going to get to the real thing as possible.
