These are Talon Hour Glass / Dumb Bell / Bar Bell Type Eyes
Talon Hour Glass shaped eye to give your mudeye type flies, that special flathead of a real mudeye or for that special little baitfish

Some of the main reasons for using
Hourglass / Dumb Bell / Bar Bell
type eyes are:

- Increase the weight of the fly.
- Invert the fly so it rides point upwards
  and therefore reduces catching the
  bottom or rubbish.
- Add an eye to your fly.

I looked at Saltwater flies and realized that the addition of small Hour Glass Eyes would make a huge difference to my Bass and Trout flies, so we arranged a manufacture to produce 3 and 4 mm HG Eyes for trails.  Conclusion: I should have been using them about 30 years ago!

Then I experimented with different colours and centers and found that a glow in the dark centered eye on a nymph was, simply fantastic. I now build my nymph so they ride point up, and as a result, catch or hookup the bottom far less, this then allows me to drag the nymph over the bottom, just like the real thing.

And Glow in the Dark fires up Rainbow Trout even in full sun light! AND Bass hate them :)

Alternatively, add the Black Hour Glass Eye with the Silver center to your Smelt fly and see what Mr Trout thinks of it, he thinks its a free meal!

You may notice that the bridge between the eyes is wider than the 'normal', this is to allow a head to be formed or a wrapping of material that will produce the desired head shape.

The use of these Eyes are only limited by your imagination.

They are the ideal way to add a little weight, instead of a brass bead, to your Mudeye type and Wooly Buggers type flies, where a real mudeye has a flat front area that pushes water, the signal that all Trout can hear and know represents food !
