west coast accessing pristine rivers and estuaries, great
reefs and some action packed blue water pelagic fishing.

with a huge variety of marine life and an explosion of colourful
reef systems. Our vessel departs from northern Cape York

New
Zealand's Magical Motueka River.
Trout Fishing Heaven
Come
and fish one of New Zealand's best trout regions staying
in a iconic fly fishing lodge surrounded by spectacular
mountain scenery.
Most fly fishers know that New Zealand is one of the best
trout fishing destinations in the southern hemisphere. The
clean climate, stunning scenery and abundance of trout filled
rivers combine with excellent hospitality to deliver the
perfect fly fishing holiday.
Many Kiwis will know of the Motueka River region near
Nelson at the top of the South Island. The Motueka regularly
tops NZ Fish & Game surveys as having the largest concentration
of healthy trout.
Also
in recent years it appears the average size of trout caught
in the river system is rising according to long time fishers
of the region. The Mot and the other two major
rivers in the region, the Wangapeka and the Batton and their
many tributaries drain from the surrounding snowy mountains
of the Nelson Lakes and Kahurangi National Parks.
The
variety of waters at the door step of the lodge cater for
experienced fly fishers, novices, family groups and corporate
groups delivering all a trout fishing experience to remember.
Most of the surrounding rivers are readily accessible by
4WD or by foot making it easy to sample a variety of waters
in one day. Your guide will choose the rivers or streams
to fish on the basis of local knowledge of the weather conditions,
river levels, hatch conditions and your requirements. Stonefly
Lodge matches a guide to your needs, whether you want to
learn the basics of the sport or head
into the back country for the catch of a lifetime.
All
guides are members of the New Zealand Professional Fly Fishing
Guides Association

Stonefly Lodge is ideally situated on the
eastern boundary of Kahurangi National Park making Heli-fishing
a popular option. This vast wilderness holding some of the
most spectacular high country and remote river systems offers
a chance to catch a trophy fish of 6lb or more. Your helicopter
departs from our own exclusive helipad just in front of
the lodge and after dropping you and your guide in the wilderness
will return to collect you at an appointed time and location.
Scenery here was made famous by the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
