Russell
Island is about 16 square kilometres. Traffic is
minimal and the air is fresh
Being an island, summers are cooler and winter temperatures
are milder. The subtropical climate is ideal for outdoor
activities all year round. The average winter temperature
ranges from 11-21 degrees and summer is 18-28 degrees
Celsius. Most tropical fruits can be grown, which is
not the case in most areas on the mainland because of
frosts.

This is a small seaside park on Krummel Passage
at the north end of the island, just west of the main jetty.
North Stradbroke Island is in the distance and Karragarra Island
on the left. |
At
the south end of Russell Island is the best beach, where
you can walk out to at low tide. The southern end of Canaipa
passage runs past here.

to avoid turtles and dugongs. |

Island is the largest of the Southern Moreton Bay Island
group. Brisbane CBD is 39k to the northeast and Surfers
Paradise is 32k south.
