Improved
performance from your propeller can be obtained if a bead
is placed in the front and 2 beads behind the blade. When
fitting the blade to the hook shank, place the raised center
at the rear. This in turn acts as a bearing surface for
easier rotation, and therefore the blade will spin on the
'drop'. You will be surprised how many Bass, Trout, or Trevas
will ambush your fly on the way down.
If
your fly spins instead, then add more wing material or increase
the hooks size, or both. If possible build a pattern with
a vertical shape. At night or in cloudy water props come
into their own as the sound of a tail sized blade spinning
around signals "dinner" in fish talk.
In
fast water and with a bladed nymph, poor old Troutie cannot
help himself. When salmon are being too clever, cast a bladed
fly at them and watch the water erupt.
