About the wonderful Llama.
Llamas, is the the cousin of alpacas, vicunas and guanacos, and the thinking is, thought to have been bred by the South American ancients to be the all purpose animal. With the following uses for packing and laboring, their fiber is used for garments, rugs, blankets, and the meat and hide used for food and goods.

Finer fiber is called Alpaca and the courser fiber of either animal Llama.

Llamas have two types of fiber-guard hair and undercoat hair. The guard hair usually grows faster, is hollow, courser and straighter than the undercoat. These guard hair tends to effect snow and rain and help to run off water, debris tends not stick to the guard hair.
 The undercoat usually is finer, with much more crimp than the guard hair. These two factors create more loft which keep the llama warmer in winter by trapping in the body heat and in the summer allows the wind to cool the body better.

Llamas represent the preeminent pack animal and are they are exceptionally strong, willing and calm. Llamas were bred for packing about 3,000 - 4,000 BC. The structure of their feet gives them enormous agility, while preventing damage to tracks.

And for the Fly Tier, the Llama hair produces wonderful Dry Flies, with its hollow fiber, great streamer wings, super Dubbing, and Saltwater flies that start and finish with your imagination, the uses for these materials are endless. Talon Llama Dubbing is made up of very tiny air cells and is light and soft, and will NOT become waterlogged, because of the trapped air cells it is naturally buoyant and is almost iridescent in water by the collection of tiny air bubbles within the fibres.

Talon Llama Dubbing Brushes

Available in 10 colours, each with its own matching flash/enhancer material added for you.

Dubbing Brush, it is just like you could make yourself, but with a very fine, 0.006" stainless steel wire that holds the body and flash materials together, and twisted a a uniform rate so the end result is a constant amount of material all along the wire. Length 10inches / 250mm and 2inches /50mm wide. Require a fly that is quick to build bulk and flows with the water, this is for you.

Talon Llama Saltwater length hair is amazingly tough! The smallest amount of movement produces a heavenly like movement in the Llama hair. We could write a couple of pages about this amazing hair, try it and be converted to Talon Llama Saltwater length hair.

On average the hair length is 6inches / 150mm with some sections being 8 inches long, width about 1inch plus, how many flies that you can produce from just one section, 'heaps'.
